the sibu municipality
pavilion for laman 2006.
The sibu municipality expressed their need for something a touch different for their entry at the annual malaysian garden festival. They asked for a public toilet. So, they got a bush. A stylized bush.
One end of the pavilion became a lazy day plinth for a sofa and a set of armchairs under the shade of a grand old tembusu tree. The other end became the tea room. Sandwiched between the two was the ‘bush’, a grove of a hundred and twenty eugenia aromaticum trees with apple green leaves hiding a narrow maze entry and the toilet proper at the heart of the grove, guarded by the trunk of a gnarly indian coral tree.
A compost wall of steel mesh and dead leaves hid the entrance and had mesh basin niches cut in to facilitate the washing of hands.
