timber, mild steel and stainless steel.
The slat door was designed as a main garden gate for the lightwell house. Its design developed over the need of a single latching mechanism from both inside and out without the compromise of privacy commonly associated with gate latch designs. Also important in the design was a fixing detail for the timber slats which concealed the method of its construction.
A sliding locking hasp was designed for the door, allowing for padlocking either side of the single vertical galvanized bolt. For the concealed detail, the wood slats were offset each side and fixed in place from the backside of each face, augering well for weathering and the protecting of joints from water damage.
