The railings on the west-facing
verandahs of the gardenwall
offices began their design from
aftermarket car radiator mesh
grilles: made from an expanded
steel sheets wide-stamped to the
effect of small louvres, the mesh
profile allows good air flow while
keeping excessive amounts of
water from entering the body of
the vehicle and protecting the
radiator from stone chip damage.
Architecturally applied, the
delicately louvred grilles were
dimensioned well in standard size
for the edges of the circulation
verandahs: rising a metre tall
for actual physical security and
projecting a metre below lower
floor verandah soffits, they serve
for late afternoon shading and
glare control, while the louvred
handrailing, viewed from within,
allows views downward to the
forested courtyards below.
