concretecarpet stair
reinforced concrete and mild steel.
The concretecarpet stair
was designed to mark formal
entry to each tower of the
gardenwall offices through the
act of ascent. Backed by a wall
of concrete, each stair rises to
a mezzanine level where the
transfer floor formally locates.
Constructed of a contiguous
concrete slab six inches thick
in a single continuous cast, it
is supported mid-landing by
four reinforcement bars hung
from the concrete structure
above, each bar being an inch
and a quarter (30mm) round.
The stair was finished with
timber treads floated off the
sloping slab by hidden steel
supports, and a mesh stair rail
fashioned from expanded steel
- corporate stretch nylons for
a concrete carpet and an
otherwise unsexy walk up for
just another day at the office.
