scrapwood pool
scrap timber and concrete.
The scrapwood pool was part
of a garden experiment for the
lightwell house regarding the
an alternative to finishes used
on pool designs regionally. Its
brief simply required scrap
timber to be used and for the
formed concrete to be left in
its raw formstruck state.
With the nature of both scrap
timber and the way workmen
operate locally, carpentry for
the work was left primarily in
the hands of the workmen with
the sole instruction that the
haphazard mix of timber bits
was to be nailed together in
predominantly horizontal
fashion. The resultant narrow
ledges on the pool walls have
proven ideal for the cultivation
of algae and a convenient
alternative to the ever-staid
and incomparably graceless
stainless steel pool ladder.
