bathvalet

timber and stainless steel.

The bath valet was designed
from scrap pieces of plank and
fixed length threaded steel rods
of two sizes, each left over from
a past of forgotten intentions.

The longer rod lengths seemed
just right for a tall side table
as did the square cuts of timber
for the table top and lower shelf.
The only problem was that the
rods were simply too slender to
hold their shelves without sway.

The solution came through use
of shorter but thicker steel rods
that were part of the scrap
collection: these bolted the two
lower timber worktops together,
forming a semi rigid base
through which the thin longer
rods gained their measure of
structural stability.
