To permit a greater flexibility
of use for the somewhat narrow
poolside of the lightwell house,
sliding timber plinths to lounge
on were designed as the means
to reclaim deck space over the
pool when it was not in use. The
plinths trundle over the pool
bed on stainless steel wheels
fixed to a stainless steel frame
underbelly.

As the timber plinths were of
considerable weight, careful
attention was paid to sizing the
frames that the plinths rested
on and were moved with for that
balance between strength and
grace. The undercroft mounting
between plinth and frame was
subsequently detailed in fashion
appropriate to its proximity to
the pool water level - water
resistant joints for poolside
tropical monsoon application.
