steel entry mat

zinc plated mild steel.

The grace of arrival and
ceremony of entrance gave
way to this rethink of the
traditional main entry door
mat for the louvrebox house.

Set four feet away from the
edge of its porch and a floor
above the main living room
level, the glass lobby of the
house was intended to be a
lantern to the street for the
welcome of arrival, subtly
disengaged from the garage
mundane - a space designed
to separate the sacred from
the profane, A bridge was
required for the poetic.

It was decided that function
best served poetry and thus,
a floor grating of galvanised
steel over the separation was
created to mark both the act
of arrival and the simple fact
of kicking off dirt.
