dining table #3

stainless steel, timber
and tempered glass.

A series of tables saw design
over the end of 1990, having
to do with glass tops on timber
frames with nothing more in
the way of assembly but steel
rods in tension and timber in
compression. Dining table #3
was the last of the tables.

Engineered without the use
of nails, timber screws or glue,
the table finds rigidity through
the properties inherent in the
materials of its contruction.

And, as in the bedframe built
a year earlier, its structural
resolution was distilled from
each of four joints, and the
diagonal juxtaposition of three
quarter inch stainless steel
rods, one threaded between
the separation made by the
other two running in parallel.
