a/c jacket

floor mounted a/c housing sleeve.

The a/c jacket came about as a
reexamination of an age-old issue
concerning air-conditioning in the
tropics. The fact is, ducted air-
handling is svelte, but a bother
with its associated problems of
servicing. Exposed wall-mounted
units are easier to maintain, but
never quite made it past the
aesthetically dubious - and that’s
even before the handprints of
ladder-bound service men come
into play.

Which leaves the floor-mounted
a/c unit; easiest to service. and
sympathetic to hung artwork the
way wall units could never be. the
only thing it suffers is that degree
of kick-around aesthetic limbo.
The a/c jacket was designed as a
retrofit for the floor-mounted a/c
unit, serving exactly as its name
suggests, formal wear for an
otherwise dreary lump of
equipment for tropical living.
