bedframe

scrap lumber and
galvanised steel.

The bedframe was conceived
as a contemporary attempt to
return fundamental design to
what beds truly do and why.

It was lifted off the floor
to allow for ease of cleaning
and airflow below; configured
with spaced timber slats held
off the frame sides for the
support and aeration of a
mattress; and the support
slats were spaced by means
of a timber rail above as a
rebate for sheets to hold
better on mattress sides.

And given the, ahem, rigors
that bed use gets put to, the
resolution of its design comes
by way of the manner with
which it is structurally braced:
through the triangulation of
all forces at each of four
simple joints.
